Two-Year Postdoctoral Training in Pediatric Neuropsychology

Overview

The Portsmouth Neuropsychology Center (PNC), a private practice in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, is seeking trainees for a two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pediatric Neuropsychology. PNC provides comprehensive neuropsychological assessment and treatment services for children, adolescents, and adults within a collaborative, team-based private practice setting.

Our primary training goal is to provide evidence-based clinical training in neuropsychological assessment and to prepare fellows for careers as scientist-practitioners in pediatric neuropsychology.

Training Overview

The fellowship provides extensive supervised experience in conducting outpatient neuropsychological evaluations. Clinical work primarily focuses on children, adolescents, and young adults, with opportunities to work with older adults and to provide psychotherapeutic services across the lifespan.

Fellows complete two years of full-time formal training. Approximately 75% of time is devoted to clinical service delivery, 10% to didactics and educational opportunities, 10% to clinical research activities, and 5% to professional development.

Fellows typically conduct 2–3 evaluations per week and participate fully in all aspects of the evaluation process, including intake, preparation, assessment, report writing, feedback, and consultation. Opportunities for community outreach, school observations, and educational team meetings are also available.

Didactics

Fellows participate in a range of didactic experiences including training on assessment instruments and procedures, psychotherapy techniques, case conceptualization, and ethics. Didactics include clinical staff meetings, case conferences, journal clubs, ethics and professional development seminars, and formal presentations.

PNC also supports fellows’ participation in webinars and professional conferences. Didactic experiences are supplemented with directed readings and can be tailored to the fellow’s training interests.

Supervision

Fellows receive a minimum of two hours of individual supervision weekly, along with ongoing informal supervision and peer mentorship. Supervision emphasizes neuropsychological assessment, report writing, feedback delivery, special education law, and evidence-based psychotherapy.

Professional development includes mentoring in private practice competencies such as business operations, marketing, and billing.
