Forensic Neuropsychological Evaluations
The Portsmouth Neuropsychology Center provides forensic neuropsychological evaluations for legal, administrative (such as disability, employment, or educational determinations), and court-involved matters. Evaluations are conducted with an emphasis on objectivity, methodological rigor, and adherence to established professional and ethical standards.
Scope of Forensic Evaluations
Forensic neuropsychological evaluations are designed to address specific referral questions related to cognitive, psychological, and functional abilities within legal or administrative contexts. Evaluations are tailored to the referral source’s questions and applicable standards.
Referral Contexts
Referrals are accepted in a range of contexts, including:
- Civil and administrative proceedings
- Disability and functional capacity determinations
- Educational eligibility disputes
- Court-involved or legally mandated evaluations
- Independent medical evaluations (IMEs)
Objectivity and Professional Standards
Forensic evaluations are conducted independently and are not therapeutic in nature. Findings are based on clinical interview, standardized testing, collateral information, and record review, and are developed in accordance with applicable professional guidelines and ethical standards for forensic practice.
Evaluation Process
Depending on the referral question, evaluations may include:
- Review of relevant records
- Clinical interview
- Standardized neuropsychological assessments
- Assessment of response validity, as appropriate
- Integration of findings into a comprehensive written report
Reports are structured to clearly address the referral questions and to support informed decision-making.
